COATS Glow Fun Run

Name: COATS Glow Fun Run
Date: August 17, 2017
Time: 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM EDT
Event Description:
Delegate Kirk Cox recently carried a resolution on our behalf designating August 17th as Coats Disease Awareness Day in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  We are pleased to announce that it passed unanimously through the House and Senate this past winter.  I have attached a copy of HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 750 designating August 17, in 2017 and in each succeeding year, as Coats Disease Awareness Day in Virginia.

Now that we have an official day, we are busy planning something fun to not only bring awareness about Coats Disease, but also to bring the kids together that are fighting it so they know they are not alone.  One of the detection signs of Coats Disease is a “GLOW” like appearance in the affected eye from using flash photography.  While Coats Disease is rare, a glow can also detect up to 15 other eye related disorders including cancer (www.knowtheglow.org).

We are planning a Glow Fun Run at the Chester YMCA on August 17th from 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.  Delegate Kirk Cox also plans to attend to do a formal presentation with a framed resolution to our family.  The Colonial Heights Lions Club will also be there performing eye screenings on those that would like to participate.

As with any event, there is a lot to plan and do.  If you wish to make a donation to help make our day a success, we would greatly appreciate it.  I have also attached the flyer for the event.
